Artists' Sale Weekend

Admittedly, I've gone a little crazy with the rock crochet, so please - come out this weekend to Blowing Sands at 5805-14th Avenue NW (98117) in beautiful Ballard to take one or two home with you!  We'll be there Saturday (June 9th) from noon until 9:00 p.m. - art walk evening - and Sunday (June 10th) from noon until 5:00 p.m.

As the name suggests, there will be lots of blown glass on hand, as well.  Take this opportunity to visit a working glass studio.

Rocks . . . Or Are They?

I've always thrilled at the discovery of a rock with attitude or unique coloring or shapeliness.  I have a jar full of rocks and seaglass that I have carried home from various beaches.  Often I will put my hand into a jacket pocket and find dirt in its depths from recent rock transport.

Why not, I thought, combine two things I love:  rocks and crochet?  Yes, I think that way.  Designs are evolving with each uniquely shaped stone, but here's what I have so far.

Won't they make cool paperweights?  See how long it takes people to figure out the colorful crochet is simply the clothing on a perfect stone.

Hard and Soft = Interesting Crochet

I love a small crochet project, especially one that I can make up as I go along.  I've always been a collector of rocks I stumble upon when out on a walk, and in my world everything goes better with a little crochet.
Along the way, my scale has increased
Smooth stones + yarn + crochet hook = creative evening

Out and About

Another treasured sunny day - especially appreciated after the snow and other wild weather we've had over the last couple of weeks.  I felt compelled to take a photo of the very steep sidewalk that I will add to my walking route when my fitness level increases a bit.  It looks to get the heart rate up quite nicely.
It actually raises my heart rate just looking at it and imagining the climb.

I also had to stop and admire this very posh fire hydrant.  I suspect they may be Husky fans, as it appears to be U.W. colors.

I also like the rocks strategically placed all the way up the stairs.  I, myself, enjoy a good rock.  I've been gathering interesting ones on my walks, to be covered in crochet.

Woman without Project

Here's what happens when I'm left to myself with no project in progress.  I start crocheting around rocks.  You think I jest?
My glassblowing friend sells glass doodles (the round pieces of glass knocked off of blown glass pieces) at our artists' sales.  I suspect these will be my "doodles", as I haven't yet thought of any other way to use them.

Rocks clothed in crochet, anyone?  If so, you know where to find them!

Rocks and Yarn and Time on My Hands

It doesn't take much to send me off on a creative tangent.  I'm creating crochet patterns as I go along for Christmas gifts, and wanted to add a little something extra to them.  I was quite inspired by an article in the Seattle Times on Sunday about a Seattle fiber artist who creates fantastic crocheted items and is currently mixing yarn and rocks.  Ah Ha!  I now have a little pile of rocks crocheted into yarn.
I have yet to discover how they will be incorporated into other creations, but even a rock enjoys a little sweater!
